Devastation in Christchurch Central after Earthquake

The Red Zone of Christchurch

The inner city area of Christchurch is referred to as the red zone. Access is tightly controlled and some business owners have still not been able to retrieve stock and belongings from damaged buildings. It is possible to see into the red zone through cordon fences and at the weekends, people are seen wandering around the city, camera in hand as they inspect the damage. It is part of the process of dealing with the immense loss the region has experienced. Click here for news on how the inner city appeared on a walk through it on the 11th June 2011. Below are some photos taken in Christchurch central on the same day.
