4.3 Aftershock in Christchurch
At 2:11am on the 26th March, Christchurch was shaken by a strong 4.3 aftershock. This was 11.4 kilometres deep and released 45 tons of energy. The previous day, the city was awoken by a 4.1 aftershock just after midnight. Business People Angry After Christchurch Earthquake
A group of 100 angry business owners stormed cordons in Christchurch central on the 21st March. Some had seen footage on television that showed their buildings had been demolished without them knowing. Christchurch Aftershocks 20th March 2011
Christchurch residents were shaken by a 5.1 magnitude aftershock at 9:47 pm on Sunday 20th March. The shock caused damage to a dairy and Civil Defense reported that more masonry fell from damaged buildings in town. Prince William Speaks at Christchurch Earthquake Memorial
On Friday 18th March, Prince William joined Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key and various other dignitaries in addressing a crowd of 100,000 people. Update on Christchurch 2011 Earthquake
Christchurch is making small steps towards recovery after the 22nd February earthquake but life is far from normal. The central city is still cordoned off and military and police man road blocks around the perimeter. In the outer zones that have been opened up, the city is like a ghost town. Christchurch Earthquake 2011 - Steps to Recovery
Progress after Christchurch Earthquake 2011
According to Christchurch Mayor, Bob Parker, the 6.3 earthquake that struck Christchurch on the 22nd February 2011 was 5 times more damaging than the 4th September 2010 quake. Eleven days after the big shake, the city is making slow steps towards physical and emotional recovery. This is amid piles of silt, extremely dusty conditions and roads that are split and torn.
